Abstract

The interview with Gustavo Gutiérrez, renowned liberation theologian, offers valuable insights into his trajectory, the development of Liberation Theology and his reflections on the Church and Latin American society. Gutiérrez recalls his pastoral experience, which founded his theology, and discusses the importance of the preferential option for the poor, a central concept in his work. He addresses the complexity of the Latin American reality, marked by advances and setbacks, and the need for a deeper Christian commitment in the face of contemporary challenges, such as globalization and growing inequality. Gutiérrez emphasizes the importance of hope and transformative action, highlighting the role of the poor as agents of their own liberation. The interview reveals Gutiérrez's theology as a critical and engaged reflection that seeks to illuminate Christian practice in the context of the struggle for social justice.
