Abstract

The Rio de la Plata Declaration of Animal Rights, signed on November 15, 2024, represents a milestone in the evolution of Animal Law in the region. This document proposes a paradigm shift in the legal conception of animals, recognizing them as conscious beings with inherent dignity. This article analyzes the context of the Declaration, its impact on overcoming legal anthropocentrism, the procedural innovations it introduces, and the challenges for its effective implementation. Issues such as legal animal trauma, liability for damages to "no-one's" animals, and future prospects for the consolidation of this new legal paradigm are addressed.
