A COEXISTÊNCIA DOS GRUPOS CONFESSIONAIS LIBANESES OBSERVADA PELO CONCEITO DE SEMIOSFERA

Abstract

In nowadays Lebanon, there is the confessionalism system, in which every citizen may pertain to one of the confessional groups — a religious group. Among them, the Maronites, the Muslim and the Druzes can be highlighted. The confessional system does not affect only the private life of the individuals, but also the públic, because it regulates civil causes, such as marriage, and national politics. From the Semiotics of Culture theory, especially the writings of Iuri Lotman, it can be observed the structure of the confessional groups as semiospheres, spaces of significative production, whose borders establish contacts between different cultures and it respectives religions, inside the lebanese, levantine and arabic cultures. As of questionnaires answered by lebanese and descendants, this exploratory research looks for data to investigate the coexistence relationships among the confessional semiospheres, in order to establish cultural observations about the contemporaneous lebanese confessional system.
