International Development Cooperation: Germany and the United Kingdom's Gender and Climate Change Agenda in the Brazilian Amazon

This article is one of the results of the research project “International Cooperation and Climate Change: the challenges of the gender issue in International Organizations from the Amazon in the 2030 Agenda”. The study examines the evolution of International Development Cooperation (ICD) within the scope of the 2030 Agenda through the analysis of ongoing programs promoted by Germany and the United Kingdom in the Brazilian Amazon. The research seeks to identify, in the aforementioned programs, intersections between SDGs 5 and 13, covering the themes of gender equality and action against climate change. The methodology adopted is descriptive, anchored in the literature review and categorization of actions. The text explores the structure of cooperation between the two countries in focus, emphasizing the priorities intrinsic to climate change. The results indicated, a priori, that Germany and the United Kingdom stand out as prominent actors on the environmental agenda with specific initiatives in the Brazilian Amazon, however, no projects were identified that directly addressed the gender issue related to climate change. The exploratory analysis also highlighted important aspects of the governance of the SDGs, such as the presence of private actors, found in programs developed in the region.
